Frequently Asked Questions
It is recommended having your carpets professionally cleaned once every 12-18 months for a regular household carpet
There shouldn’t be any wet smell. However, if there’s any, it means that the carpet was wet for too long. Whenever a carpet has been professionally cleaned, you need to open the windows to improve ventilation or turn on the AC system.
It is recommended that you wait 3 hours for the damp areas to dry. If you have to walk on your carpets straight after the service, you can walk barefoot or wear overshoes (protective shoes)
It usually takes 3-6 hours, for a carpet to full dry depending on the weather, the thickness of the carpet, the material, ventilation and the temperature in the room. You can speed up the process by leaving your windows open or turning on the AC. (do not turn up the heating as this will create condensation)
Tips and Tricks
Here are some tips to keep your carpet spotless and stain-free in between professional carpet cleaning visits:
Clean Spills and Stains Right Away
It is important to take action right away to prevent stains from embedding deep within the carpet fibres. Don’t wait for the next day or later to attend to spills and stains. The longer the spill remains on the surface, the more difficult it will be to remove it.
Blot Instead of Rubbing
Spills should be blotted up - dab, dab, dab, do not rub vigorously as this will spread the spill.
Rinse with water immediately - Use cold water first - use hot water second - if the spill was hot, such as tea or coffee, it may require hot water to remove it.
Always use cold water on blood spillages - Blot liquid spills with a dry, white, absorbent cloth or plain white paper towels (without any print designs).
Always blot gently, working from the outside of the spill towards the centre. Keep blotting until you cease to get a transfer of the spill to the cloth.
For dried stains, solids and heavy oils use a spoon or spatula to gently brush and scrape the area to lift the residue.
Chemicals
Don’t use cleaning agents with harsh chemicals. If water doesn’t work, use a small amount of dish-washing detergent. If you can’t remove it, then the best solution is to contact H2O carpet cleaning.
Pet Stains
Don’t use a steam cleaner when dealing with urine spots because the heat will set the stain and the smell.
Instead, blot spill as above and rinse with cool water to reduce the odour.
If necessary, call H2O for to remove the pet stains and odours permanently.
Vacuum the Carpet
It is important to vacuum rugs and carpet regularly. Don’t wait for the carpet to look dirty before doing so.
Regular vacuuming removes dirt and other allergens from the flooring.
